Why use a digital card?

A digital debit or credit card is simply a digital version of your physical card. With a digital card, you can:

  • start using your card instantly, as soon as your application's approved
  • store your card in your digital wallet, so it can’t be lost or stolen
  • make online purchases and payments quickly and securely on your mobile
  • get rid of the hassle and risk of carrying all your physical cards

How to access your digital cards:

  1. Log on to the HSBC UAE app.
  2. Select the account you want.
  3. Select ‘Manage cards’.
  4. You can then add your card to a digital wallet, view your card details and more.

Digital wallets

What is a digital wallet?

A digital wallet is an app that allows you to keep all your digital debit or credit cards together on your phone or other mobile device. When you're paying for something, you can then choose the card you want from the ones in your digital wallet.

Your payment details stay secure, as they don't get shared with the merchant when you make a purchase. And you can also your digital wallet to make payments online, without having to fill in all your card details each time.

How safe is a digital wallet?

Things like biometric log on with your fingertips, or your face, are a secure way to log on to your mobile device and also on to apps like the HSBC UAE Mobile Banking app.

Digital wallets use authentication and data encryption to protect your personal information, unlike a traditional wallet where someone can access your payment cards if they take it.

Mobile operating devices are better at protecting users from malicious software than desktop operating systems. However, users of digital wallets should still implement additional safety measures to keep their information safe.

These can include:

  • using a PIN or fingerprint identification protection on your smartphone

  • being vigilant about keeping track of payments made from your digital wallet
