What are security codes?

We take your online safety very seriously. If you use online banking, security codes give you added protection against the threat of fraud. You’ll generate a temporary code from your device so you can access your full range of online banking services.

Don’t share your security codes with anyone. For more information on fraud prevention, please visit our Security centre.

It's part of the HSBC UAE app so once you log on with your 6-digit PIN you can generate codes quickly and easily.
Biometric ID

If you have a compatible device, you can log on using Touch ID, Face ID or Android Fingerprint.

How do security codes work?

Security codes are temporary codes that act as an extra level of security for certain actions performed through online banking.

To generate a code, you need the 6-digit PIN that you created when you registered for digital banking - or you can use biometrics if your device has these features.

Frequently asked questions

You’ll find security codes in the HSBC UAE app.

They are activated automatically when you log on or register for digital banking.

You can generate a security code from the HSBC UAE app.

Here’s how:

Launch the HSBC UAE app
Select ‘Generate a code’ from the bottom of the screen
Select ‘Transaction Signing’
Enter your 6-digit PIN or use biometrics
You will be asked to input the requested digits from your transaction
Your security code will be displayed
Enter the security code on the online banking page

You can also follow the on-screen instructions on the online banking page.

If you forget your mobile PIN, you can quickly reset it in the HSBC UAE app:

Agree to validate your identity online via Emirates Facial Recognition
Scan your ID document to verify your identity - you can use either Emirates ID or passport
Take a video selfie
Reset your 6-digit PIN
That's it, you're done

If your mobile device is lost or stolen, for your security, you should remove it from your profile as soon as possible.

If you have the HSBC UAE app on another device:

Log on to the app
Go to ‘Profile’ and select ‘Manage Devices’
Find the lost device in the list and select ‘Delete’

If you don’t have the app on any other devices, please call us and we can remove your device from your profile.

No, we no longer support using a Physical Secure Key to log on.
