Important regulatory changes for European customers
We want to tell you about a new rule for European Economic Area (“EEA”) residents called Article 21c of the European Union Capital Requirements Directive (CRD VI). This is for information only - we don’t expect it to affect the products and services we give you.
What is CRD VI?
CRD VI introduces new rules on how banks outside the EEA, including HSBC Bank Middle East Limited, provide certain products and services to customers who live in the EEA. These include deposit accounts, loans, and issuing guarantees. These changes will take effect by 1 January 2027.
What does this mean for you?
Your current products and services are provided by HSBC Bank Middle East Limited, and this won’t change. You don’t need to do anything. They’ll still be available, and we’ll continue to service them, in line with our current processes. We won’t proactively offer you any more products and services from outside the EEA, beyond those you already have. You can still ask us about them if you wish.
Want to know more?
If you have any questions, please contact us. You can also seek independent advice from your financial, tax or legal adviser if you have any concerns.
Verify your cards in the HSBC UAE app
From 11 May 2026, you can verify adding your cards to your digital wallet in the HSBC UAE app, instead of using SMS and email one-time passwords (OTP).
Managing your debt: We are here for you
As part of our ongoing commitment to supporting our customers, we understand that if your circumstances change and you start to fall behind with repayments or feel worried about money, it can be hard to know where to begin.
Please know you’re not alone. Getting in touch early and taking the right steps at the right time can help you regain control and get back on track.
Fraud Alert notice
Beware of fraudsters using the ‘National Alert’ as an opportunity to mislead the public. If you get a call from a private number claiming to be from government authorities such as the Dubai Police, Ministry of Interior or Ministry of Defence, hang up. Never share your Emirates ID, bank details or any personal information.
Always verify requests through official government channels. Please do not delete our app based on instructions from anyone else.
