Closing your account

Find out what to do if you no longer need your current or savings account.

Ways to close your account

If you no longer want to use your account, you can close it using the HSBC UAE app, in a branch or by phone. Whichever method you use, the account needs to have a balance of zero when you close it.

Before your account is closed, make sure you:

  • Repay any amounts you owe us
  • Cancel any payments into or out of your account
  • Destroy any unused cheques and cards. You can do this by cutting them into at least 6 pieces
  • Replace any cheques made out to third parties with another payment method

If your account is in credit, you can transfer your balance to your own account with HSBC or another bank, either in the UAE or elsewhere.
