The safer way to authorise card transactions

3D Secure in-app authentication is an enhanced way to approve or decline your online card transactions in the HSBC UAE app.

In-app authentication offers a faster and more reliable way to approve your HSBC credit, debit or Global Money debit card transactions. And unlike SMS passcodes it can't be delayed or intercepted, so you're more protected.

Just make sure you have the latest version of our app and enable push notifications in your device settings.

Shop online

Make your transaction as usual with your HSBC credit or debit card.

Get a push notification

Once enabled in your device settings, you’ll get push notifications to approve your transaction in the HSBC UAE app. If notifications are disabled, you can still log on to the app manually to review and approve your transaction.

Review your transaction

Tap the message to view the details and select ‘Approve' or 'Reject'. To approve you’ll need your biometric log on or 6-digit PIN.

Complete your purchase

Once approved, you’ll be directed back to the merchant’s website.

No. 3D Secure in-app authentication has replaced SMS OTPs for approving online card transactions.

To complete your payment, you’ll need to register for online banking and get the HSBC UAE app.

If you need help with registration or downloading the app, please call the number on the back of your card.

After you approve the first transaction, you can approve another by selecting 'Next transaction' in the HSBC UAE app.

No, supplementary cardholders who don't use the HSBC UAE app will continue to approve their transactions using SMS one-time passcodes.

Supplementary cardholders who access their savings or current accounts in the app can approve online transactions in it as well.

If you get a push notification for a transaction you didn't make:

Tap 'Reject' immediately
Report it to us using the 'Support' tab in the HSBC UAE app
You can also block your card after rejecting the transaction by selecting 'Don’t recognise transaction' then 'Block card' or 'Contact us' in the app

If you don't enable notifications in your device settings for the HSBC UAE app, you won’t get notifications to approve your online card transactions.

This means you’ll need to manually open the app to review and approve the transaction.

Yes. You can get push notifications for online transactions while abroad, as long as your device is connected to the internet or Wi-Fi.

This may happen for several reasons:

Wrong log on details: check your username and password
Older app version: Update to the latest version of the HSBC UAE app
Online banking profile locked: Contact us to verify and unlock your profile
Maximum devices reached: The HSBC UAE app can only be active on one device at a time
You can manage your devices in the app by going to Profile, then Security, then Manage devices, then Remove device

Make sure you’re registered for the HSBC UAE app
Check you’re using the latest version of the app from the Apple App Store or Google Play
Make sure push notifications are enabled for the HSBC UAE app in your device settings
If notifications are disabled, you can still log on to the app manually to review and approve your transaction
For help, please tap on 'Support' in the HSBC UAE app, then select 'Contact us' or 'Chat with us'

For your security, the HSBC UAE app can only be registered on one device at a time.

Before registering the app on a new device, make sure you deregister it from your old one:

Log on to the HSBC UAE app
Tap 'Profile', then 'Security', then 'Manage devices'
Select the old device and tap 'Remove device'

If you can’t deregister your old device, contact us using the 'Support' tab in the app for help.

Not got the app?

Simply download the HSBC UAE app and use your existing online banking username and password to log on. You'll need to be registered with online banking.
